Make your portfolio stand out in a good way.

Getting a job as an XR Designer is tough. You need a combination of different skills that often take years to master and the competition is fierce for the limited roles available. But don’t worry! This guide will help you avoid the three most common mistakes I see in beginner XR portfolios so the biggest thing that stands out is your work.

Mistake 1: Missing or Outdated XR Projects

While this may seem obvious, it happens more than you’d think. If you’re looking to get a job in a competitive field like XR, you need to showcase some level of interest in the field. If you don’t have even a single project related to AR or VR on your portfolio, how can a recruiter or hiring manager gauge your interest and knowledge in this niche profession?

But even if you do have projects available, if they’re a couple of college projects you did for a class several years ago and never touched again, that’s not a good sign, either. Not only is your knowledge from that time period likely considered outdated by now given the rapid pace of this technology, but it fails to showcase a continued sense of passion and interest in the field.
